The lads travelled to old rivals Redbull in incredibly windy conditions. We had a squad of 13 to choose from, sadly Redbull were at full strength with some really strong players all over the pitch. We opted to play with the wind and the opening exchanges were pretty even. Unfortunately a quick break from our opponents forced Jardine into making 2 great saves. Sadly, they kept the pressure on and a great cross found cranchy 12 yards out who powered home a header from 12 yards out into the top corner. 1-0. Fortunately we went straight back at them and within two minutes Chris Keeble had levelled the scores with a drilled effort into the bottom corner from a full 25 yards. This gave us confidence and we continued to press. Unfortunately a spell of pressure was overturned and they broke incredibly quickly. As we scrambled back desperately Sean Harradine was up-ended in the box after a clever jink inside. It was a penalty and he duly dispatched it confidently for a 2-1 lead. Soon after Howard was forced off with a groin injury which was unfortunate as he always links up with Midge so well. We had a couple of chances with Matt almost sliding in at the far post and Darren hitting the post from the other side of the goal. We aimed to keep the pressure on in the second half but the quality and speed of their attackers was a real lesson to us. They never dwelt on the ball and soon extended their lead with a well worked bit of interplay at the edge of the box from their nippy forward. He bagged a spectacular 35 yarder soon after that no keeper could have stopped. We kept trying but their strength and speed of attack saw us forced back regularly. Before you knew it they had bagged two more with Tommy and Harradine securing one well taken finish and one powerful strike from a close range free kick. We were all disappointed but the reality was they were better on the day and deserved victors. Hopefully we can bounce back next week. On the upside the pizza, nachos and chips in the Redbull were outstanding!
