Hi Neil

Here we go......

After a STIRING talk from the Gaffa last week with reference to players confirming availability sooner, it was great to see all the lads had taken note!! All but Dippy, who thought 8am on the match day morning was the best option.....

Anyway, to the game in hand. Cottenham away, and Hemmingford had a good squad of players for selection.

The game started well with the lads passing and moving comfortabley, dominating possession and peppering the Cottenham goal with shot after shot. 2-Touch even managed to hit the crossbar twice in the same move and from only 6 yards out, which gave a new meaning to the cross bar challenge! (sorry 2-Touch).

Cottenham were not to be ruled out and had a few danger men on the pitch that would punish a team if taken lightly. This was demonstrated when Stu started to bring the ball out of defence from the right back position, passed the ball inside which was intercepted by the centre forward, who had a clear path to goal and didn't need a second invitation as he smashed it into the roof of the net. 1-0 Cottenham.

Moments later, Cottenham broke forward again. The Hemmingford defence were left exposed and a nice passing move, ended in an easy finish. 2-0 Cottenham. Hemmingford continued to push, but chance after chance went un-rewarded.

At half time, the Gaffa re-motivated his troops with words of wisdom. "Keep it easy, keep passing and the goals will come". Four changes were made to freshen things up, with Roy and Gav coming on at the back and Dippy and Daz on the wings to boost supply to goal.

It wasn't long before the 2 central midfielders combined with Keeble slotting a pass thorough the defence to find 2Touch, who confidently passed the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. 2-1.

With Cottenham tiring and the Hemingford lads hungry for goals, it wasn't long before the equaliser came. After a great strike from Gav the keeper palmed it away, but the ball fell to Midge who slotted the ball in. 2-2.

Cottenham were really struggling and with a another man down injured they faced playing the game out with 10 men, Stu gallantly volunteered to help them out and quickly changed strips to join the Cottenham defence. The lads continued to push and after another run from the midfield 2, a pass inside to Midge, who in turn picked out Daz storming in at the back post, who hit the ball cleanly into the back of the net. 2-3 Hemmingford.

Dippy was working his magic on the right wing where he found a little space, saw the run from Midge and calmly drifted the ball over the top in to Midge's path where he struck home to make it 2-4 Hemmingford.

With Nigel Parker organising the defence, the lads pushed for more and before long a great cross came in from the right and 2-Touch headed home is 2nd making him the team's leading goal scorer. Midge wrapped up the scoring with his 3rd of the day making it 2-6 Hemmingford.

A great start to the season with 3 out 3 wins, well done lads and well done Nigel Parker for bagging M.O.M.

Hope this is OK.......
