Vets v young boys 11

Our annual pre Christmas match against the boys didn't disappoint again this year, with the vets winning easily 8. 2 ,yes that correct 8.2. Never have I heard moaning like it from the boys side. Moaning that we played with 12 players, I even allowed them to have 12 on for 10 mins before half time to stop the moaning. They then came off at half time wanting to play 11 a side. This I agreed to for the 2nd half, but that didn't do them much good as I think we won the 2nd half 3,1. Well, back to the game, the weather was perfect ,but the pitch was not n the best of conditions , but we vets started the better, and it was no surprise when a lovely through ball by 2 touch down the right hand side Found sedge just outside the box, he cut inside and hit an unstoppable left foot shot from the edge of the box that hit the underside of the bar and went in. 1.0, this turned into 2 0 a few minutes later ,when midge ran through a couple of players just inside the box and drilled the ball across the keeper into the bottom corner. .This stunned the boys ,who normally start the game well, then fade later due to alcohol abuse and tired legs. They started to get there passing game going and came forward in droves ,but with our defence superbly marshalled by Nigel Parker, and backed up by Kevin Roy and captain Clark we weathered the storm. We continued to move the ball well, on a difficult pitch, and after 20 mins Roy found himself with a bit of space on the edge of the box and he picked his spot to fire the ball home. 3.0' by now the boys were moaning louder about our extra player and their were down ,and some good passing by our boys found Roy wide on the right hand wing 20 yards out, and his (I think) intended cross sailed into the top corner to make it 4 .0 Roy then had to come off with a slight hamstring problem, so I introduced our secret weapon Dippy, but he wasn't ready to come on, so we played with 11 for 5 mins to allow time for dippy to appear, he didn't disappoint when he came on, falling on his Arse and playing the ball whilst down, this gave the boys a boost and they scored from close range with our defence out of position for once. This didn't stop us from knocking the ball about and a great cross from the by line by midge found the head of Chris Parker who headed passed the keeper from inside the 6 yard box 5.1 . The half time whistle couldn't come fast enough for the boys ,who walked off moaning and groaning . 3 subs at half time, with Stu and Roy coming off ,they had been excellent at right midfield and left back. and Sedge coming off with a slight calf injury, these were replaced with Dazz , and debut boy Andrew Keeble, coming in at left and right back. The 2nd half started with the boys having a it more of the ball, and a through ball ,which the linesman flagged for off side was over ruled by ref Peter Blake and he forward calmly slotted it home. 5. 2. This was the last chance they had and with both our super subs and Kevin Anderson marauding down both flanks ,we were causing a lot of problems and some persistent work by Chris Keeble ,who ran from his own half with the ball ,with a defender close by him , the defender seemed to get the ball just inside the box ,but Chris continued to harass him and was rewarded for his efforts when both tumbled in the box about 6 yards out, but Chris stuck his left foot out to score a well deserved goal. The game was now 1 way traffic with 2 touch braking up all the moves in midfield ,his pass found the marauding Dazz our left back ,charging down the wing and his cross found Chris , who this time slotted home with his right foot from 8yards. Midge completed the scoring from a great cross from Kevin Anderson for the game to finish 8.2. Bell ,goalkeeper first half forward 2nd half, think he touched the ball more in the first half, didn't done anything wrong 6 Kevin Anderson, excellent down the right hand side ,great crosses and great energy. 8 Jon Clark, captain ,and centre back, won all headers ,no nonsense in the box ,had an excellent hour, before coming off knackered. 7 Nigel Parker ,superb at the back ,cutting out the danger all the time ,also used the ball well. 8 Roy Shaw ,left back, excellent heading and getting his foot in a lot of the time, also excellent food 7 Stu smith, solid as usual , nice and steady easy football passing, also excellent food spread 7 Chris Keeble , midfield sloppy first few minutes ,but after that his work rate, passing and all round game with 2 well taken goals was excellent 8 2 touch , brilliant in midfield wth Chris , complement each other well, broke up play well and used the ball intelligently 8 Chris Parker ,left wing 1st half, goalkeeper 2nd. Solid performance in both positions worked really hard and got a deserved goal 7 Sedge , midfield free roll today. Not 100% fit, but still excellent only played 1st half, but worth the entrance fee to see him play, and score a great goal with his supposed weaker left foot.7 Roy Essendoh ,forward ,only got 30 mins out of him today, but 2 quality goals, before he departed with slight hamstring injury 7 Midge, work rate , hold up play all rounder , great chap to have in your team, scored 2 goals and deserved my M.O.M award 9 Dazz , left back 2nd half, really enjoys playing and great to have on your team, great runs down the wings 7 Guest Andrew Keeble , right back, (brother of Chris) slotted in well, comfortable on the ball ,passed it well, pity it's only a 1 off performance 7 Just to finish up by wishing all of you a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year, and look forward to continuing playing football in 2116 Kingy
