Vets v cambs community 31st Jan

This fixture was supposed to be an away match, but their pitch was waterlogged ,so we invited them to us, I apologise now to our loyal supporters who hadn't heard of the change of fixture , they missed a goal feast. We ran out winners 7.2 I only had a squad of 14 today, but with the kick off at 10 30 I was down to 12 as Gee was still making the sandwiches and Dippy as usual hadn't left his house, but promised to be there by half time. We welcomed a new player Gavin Reynolds to the side ,and he started as sub, but it wasn't long before he was required as birthday boy and captain Jon Clark collapsed in the centre circle ,not sure what happened ,but he couldn't continue so Gavin can on at left back.and fitted in well. The pitch was a it sticky with a slight rain in the 1st half ,but we played some excellent football Nigel Parker and Kevin Hirst marshalled the team superbly , with Chris Keeble showing some classy skills in the midfield . It wasn't long before a ball found Kevin Anderson on the right wing ,his cross was met by Chris Parker on the edge of the box who's header gave the keeper no chance. Cambs community kept on going ,and going forward they were quite lively ,and got back level when a cross from the by line hit Nigel Parker in the stomach and deflected the ball in the back of the net. This didn't put us off and we actually started to play better ,knocking the ball around a lot quicker .Howard picked the ball up 30yds out ,he ran down the left hand side of the box ,going passed a couple of players before cutting the ball back to Midge who coolly slotted the ball into the corner of the net from 16 yds . Midge then returned the compliment to Howard , when his cross was turned in from 8yds to make it 3.1 We had to make another change when Gee replaced Chris Parker after 30 mins, but this didn't change the way we played ,and 3.1 soon became 4 .1 when midge finished off another great move. We didn't have it all our own way with jardine pulling off a couple of good saves before half time. Dippy had turned up ,so I introduced him at left back for the start of the 2nd half, only 30seconds into the half when a player went over the top in a tackle with dippy studding him around the ankle, he hobbled off for a couple of mins, but bravely came back on ,what ever you say about dippy , he does entertain you, if he's not doing his tricks ,it the dying swan dive ,or running back for 10 yds to make a brilliant tackle and come away with the ball. (Think he was after the M,O.M award) he did get 1 vote from our injured midfield General Wazza who came to watch. Let's hope he will be back soon. We were in total control now 2 touch and Chris running the midfield Howard and midge making great runs up front, Kevin and Nigel supported well by Kevin Anderson and new boy Gavin and Jardine in goal making 3 great saves in the 2nd half. Our 5th and best goal was when Chris picked the ball up on the half way line and drove forward ,slipping a great pass to midge on the edge of the box ,who controlled the ball ,before hitting a great shot across the keeper into the bottom corner ,to complete his hat trick . The spirit had been knocked out of the opposition now and 2 touch waded in with 2 goals in the last 10 mins to complete a good game for him. Cambs did get a consolation goal in the last few minutes to complete the score of 7.2 . It was a very good team performance ,with unsung hero,s Kevin Hirst and Nigel brilliant at the back, 2 touch and Chris strong in midfield ,and midge and Howard forming a great partnership up front. The M.O.M was divided today 5 votes each to Midge and Chris Keeble.
