All good things come to an end and so it proved as our long-standing epic unbeaten run (that had stretched back for many months and the whole of 2015) came to a disappointing end. That said, on the day we were beaten by a better team who worked a little bit harder and looked like they wanted it more. The early exchanges were competitive and both teams worked hard to cancel each other out. However, with the game evenly poised at about the 40 minute mark, a good cross from the right caused some problems in defence and we were adjudged to have given a penalty away for a tug. It did look like it and I think Referee Blakey on his 71st/61st birthday had a good game keeping things ticking along. Happy Birthday Blakey. The penalty was duly dispatched and we never really got into the ascendency from that point. We had a few half chances and their defence had to work hard to stifle our efforts but we lacked the cutting edge, fluidity, sharpness, desire and confidence that has been the hallmark of our play this year. That said, st Ives worked hard for their victory and managed to scramble a couple of other goals in the second half to secure a deserved 3-0 win over us. It was a big disappointment but we could not complain about the outcome.

So, we will look forward to next week and an away trip to Buckden Hopefully we can return to winning ways quickly and get back on another good run.
