Vets v Buckden 14th Feb

Valentine's Day. and we welcome Buckden to helming ford on a dry morning. I thought I had 13 players this morning, but a phone call early on and a player not turning up for me ,and Kevin Anderson arriving later ,we only had 10 players, thankfully Buckden loaned me a player for the 1st 20 mins, until my guest player ,Phil from c.u.p vets, in that time we had a vast amount of the ball, but found ourselves 1 down to a well taken goal, a shot from 30 yds sailing over jardine into the net. I think this was the only shot on target they had all game, but they were very difficult to break down. We played some good football in the 1st half ,but or final ball and crosses from both flanks never got past the 1st defender,so for all or huffing and puffing we didn't test the keeper ,and went in at half time 1.0 down. Kevin Anderson ,fireman Sam ,had arrived and that gave me 12 players for the 2nd half. We continued the 2nd half how we had finished the 1st ,on top and playing some good football, but with fireman Sam on the right wing, we were now getting a lot of crosses in, but our finishing in the 1st 20 mins had deserted us, that and a couple of great saves by the keeper, 1 especially from a 25 yrs drive from 2 touch kept us a bay . Kevin Hirst was excellent at the back ,keeping Pearce quiet, sedge was pulling the strings in midfield ,and shouting orders out cajoling his troops. 2 touch was also having more influence in midfield..,but it was super sub Kevin Anderson who's cross found midge at the far post and his header beat the keeper. Yes finally we had scored, this seemed to sap the strength out of Buckden, and another brilliant cross from Kevin ,5 mins later was only half cleared ,it fell to midge again ,and his volley from 12 yds found the net again. All one way traffic now, and a marauding run by Paul sully from his own half down the left wing, his pass inside found midge 25 yds out ,and his strike rocketed into the bottom corner of the net ,for a brilliant hat trick. We were finished and another cross from Kevin ,found guest player Phil ,who headed home from 6 yds. Final score 4.1, great to get back to winning ways, some good performances all around the park, Stu smith (Peter pan) was excellent, new boy Gavin very good at left back. Jardine in goal (after manager had a go at him) encouraging most of the time, already mentioned Kevin Hirst, sedge and 2 touch, ,but all others put in a great shift. The M.O.M this week goes to hat trick man Midge, his all round play, hold up, bringing people into the game and general work rate ,are a joy to watch. Kingy
