Vets match 29th may

Last game of a long season. The 28th match v a team with no name. The match was played on the 3G pitch at St Ives against a very young looking team, the sun had deserted us this morning and the bounce of the ball on this pitch wasn't that good. With it being bank holiday ,we were a little short of players ,so in came a couple of Buckden boys and an old player Brett got his boots out again to play. We had 14 players with John Clark in reserve if we were in any trouble .

We were playing some good football ,and it was great to see dippy again playing right back I think as he kept getting forward a lot ,even having 1 shot that almost hit the corner flag. Paul sully opened the scoring for us with a great shot from 15yds that went across the keeper into the bottom corner. An error by Gavin let in a player and he slotted it home to make it 1.1 Our second goal was pure class, with some great 1 touch passing from 5 to 6 people ,with Midge being on the end of it from 8 yds out ,and he did his usual cool finish. 2-1 half time. We started to dominate the 2nd half with a lot of possession ,as the other side started to get tired ,2 touch was dominating the midfield ,Brett was hitting some great cross field passes ,Kevin Hirst and Nigel Parker were tiding up at the back ,and Glen in goal was showing some silky touches when the ball got to him. Dippy was still on ,and a crunching challenge by him stopped an attack, he then tried to nut Meg a player, which didn't come off. But with Dippy it is always great to see him in action, and he always entertains . With 20 mins to go 2 touch moved forward with the ball and hit an unstoppable shot from 25 yards that flew into the net. We were now over running the opposing team, and but for the keeper we could have had 4 or 5 more goals. 3-1 became 4-1 when Midge fed Brett on the edge of the box, who moved a few yards into the box ,before unleashing a shot into the bottom corner. So we ended up 4-1 winners. Over the course of the season we won 18 games drew 5 and lost 5, scoring 98 goals and letting in 59 .it has been another good season, with 5 new players joining us. Darren, Chris, Gee Gee, 2 touch and Gavin, all have been excellent additions The awards for the top goal scorer went to Midge with a tally of 15 goals in not that many matches a great quality player and great team player The players player went to Kevin Hirst , it is great reward for him as he has been very consistent all season. Solid as a rock at the back ,and for a big centre half ,he is always comfortable on the ball, great header of the ball in his own box, but not quite the same when he goes up for corners.well done mate. The players votes were very close with 3 players dominating the votes. Kev won on 7 ,Nigel and Sedge had 5 each. That leaves my managers player of the year. I have gone for Nigel ,who like Kev rarely wins the weekly M.O.M awards, but always gets votes. He will play in any position ,always gives it his all ,never stops trying ,he has improved with age, great to have him in your team, and apart from that 1 fall he had in the 1st 10 seconds v the Jason King 11 ,I can't remember any other mistakes. Oh yes I can, the shot he had today that went high and wide. Never has been his strength . The last award was for our Ref Peter Blake, who has done the job all year, sometimes when he has been in a lot of pain. Thank you Peter .i would be lost without you. And thank you all for this season. It has been brilliant Kingy
