With a few people injured or unavailable we turned to a couple of regular supporters to assist with our Game away at Bluntisham. Pearcey (Buckden), Willow (Redbull) and James (Houghton) plus Jack from Buckden came in to lend a hand. With Glen overcoming a dodgy foot he was able to make it in goal.
It was another hard pitch but the lads started well and began moving the ball around confidently.
Sedge and Nigel were combining really well down the right and Chris Parker and Roy were rampaging down the left. Big James partnered Howard up top and before long some good pressure led to a chance.
James broke away and after a good interchange with Howard the ball dropped to his feet - without hesitation he guided a sweet left footer into the corner of the net giving the keeper no chance. 1-0. There was no doubt we were on top but a combination of good goal keeping and stout defending kept us at bay.
However, a lung busting run from Gavin from centre back (to the right wing) unsettled the opposition, Sedge darted forward into the box and Gavin found him with a precision pass and Sedge made no mistake guiding a first time finish under the on-rushing Keeper. 2-0 to Hemingford. The opposition captain said a few had to go early so we agreed to allow for 35 each way whilst the 1st half proceeded.
Hemingford rang the changes at half-time to ensure everyone had at least a half. The lads coming on all played their part with Pearcey enthusiastically getting stuck in despite a heel problem, Rob held the ball up well and Jack slotted in confidently at full back. However, try as we might we couldn't quite extend the lead. Two Touch came closest with a fabulous 25 yrd drive with the outside of his foot that would have been a cracker. (tipped over by the talented keeper at full stretch) We know he would never have told anyone about it either!
Gavin, Kev and Glen were solid at the back and Two Touch and Willow dominated the midfield.
It was a good - albeit short Game and another positive result.
