Home V Boys

The last vets match of the season ,that has been the hardest season so far ,with teams folding  and the, weather terrible with many games called off.

We ended up playing 19 games 14 at home ,(credit to our pitch this season)and finished today with a brilliant 5-4 victory  against our annual fixture the Boys.

Both sides were struggling to get a team, we had 12 and the boys had 11. Perfect. No Linesmen ,up to the refs discretion We started  the match very sluggish and it was no surprise that after 15 mins we were 3-0 down. The match report will not have a lot of detail ,as I was also the ball boy ,manager  ,coach and talking to the large crowd.

2 touch got us back in the game with a snap shot from inside the 6 yd box. This got the boys rattled and the vets playing some lovely football  moving the ball quickly scored again when Sedge smashed 1 in from the edge of box. Next goal missed  sorry2 touch  didn’t see the goal H T. 3-3

We started 2nd half as we finished the first. Playing lovely football creating and missing a lot of chances. The boys did create a few chances but our keeper Kieran was in top form making some great saves.

The breakthrough came after 20 mins  when our man of the season Sedge produced a brilliant shot from the edge of the box  drilled into the top corner. The play was now getting stretched with both sides unable to make any changes. The boys were awarded a free kick about 20yds out. Kieran made a great save from the kick ,but his parry out hit Keystone cop Roy who lofted it back over his head to score an own goal .4-4 I must admit I was trying to get the match finished early ,but the ref took no notice of me. ,I’m glad he didn’t as Gavin scored for us again to make it 5-4. That’s how it ended.

The end of season presentation started with the food supplied by Stacey (lovely as usual) A big thank you to our ref Peter Blake  very much appreciated.

The m.o.m award   Players player of the year was  easy with Sedge winning it. Our playmaker ,makes us tick ,great with either foot.and is a winner.Drives us on .

Top goalscorer went to Sedge again with 17 goals. Great from midfield.

Managers player of the year  went to 2 touch.  He got the award for his all round effort and commitment scoring 11 goals from midfield never giving up.

Thank you all for your efforts, the 12 I had today have all played a large part of our success,it was a pleasure to watch us play some great football .enjoy your summer.
