Vets v Young Boys

Our last match of the year against the boys is always looked forward to by us all, not necessarily for the football, but for the superb food afterwards. And we were not disappointed. More later.
The young boys had been out for the annual Christmas pub crawl, and at 10.20 they only had 5 players. They started moaning about us having 12 players on the field.,so I only started with 11, to give them a better chance.
They did eventually have 11 players, so game got underway with ref Peter Blake back in the middle after a long lay off. Good to have you back mate.
I thought we might get over run early on ,but as a team we were excellent, moving the ball around very well, and  breaking up the play brilliantly. Glen back from America made 1 superb save, and at the other end ,sedge was getting his eye in with shots from 20, 30, and 40 yds, all 3 never hit the target.we would have caused them more problems, but their keeper Jason read the game well ,and was coming out of his box on regular occasions to intercept the passes.
We did eventually breach the defence when a cross from Kevin Anderson found sedge inside the box ,and this time he made no mistake. 1-0.
Chris keeeble was on the end of a bad challenge, and will be very sore tomorrow, but he went through the pain barrier and continued on.
Gavin and Paul gave us some excellent cover at the back, with Roy and kev playing brilliantly.
Midfield with 2 touch back in the side after a 2 week absence, gave us a solid base, with Chris kev and m.o.m. Sedge working there socks off to prevent any serious threats
Kempy and rudders were running the channels well and were keeping the defence on the back foot.
1-0 half time.
Couple of changes 2nd half ,Stu smith ,coming on for kev anderson, and Simon (new player) slotting into midfield. Looks to be a good signing by manager king, who was back today barking out orders.
The boys started the second half well, and looked to be up for the fight.they had a good 15 min spell ,and scored when a shot from the edge of the box crept into the bottom corner. 1-1
I thought we might get over run, but we dug in ,and found another level, which was a credit to all the players on a boggy pitch.
We started to dominate the game and chances came and went. Sedge kept trying his luck, and was very unlucky when he  chipped the keeper, only to see the ball bounce over the bar.
Howard Kemp ,had a easy chance to score, but his shot was woeful. I looked at the crowd of at least 10 people, and said what the hell was that, to which a supporter said shit, sorry Howard ,but it was Helen your wife who said that.
We did however get a second ,and it was that man again sedge who drilled the ball home . 2-1. With 20 mins remaining I bought our last player back on so we then had 12 players.glen came out of goal ,and swapped with Roy ,who kindly put on the gloves.
And it was Glen ,who from a cross from Stu headed the ball goalbound, only to see Jason fumble the ball into the net.3-1
It was now all us, they had given up the game, and sedge rounded off an excellent display with another goal. Hat trick.
Game ended 4-1 it was a very good all around display
The food was excellent and the banter was good.
We now have a winter break, I hope you enjoy your breakMerry Christmas to you and your family.
