Vets v Swavesey 20th sept

What a glorious day for a game of football, our 1st home match of the season v Swavesey ,The pitch was in excellent condition . We welcomed back Paul who was injured a couple of weeks ago and Midge and Roy Essendoh had their first run out of the season. Swavesey had a very new looking side ,and they started the match playing some good football, working very hard for each other and causing us a few problems. We on the other hand were slow in the build up and playing the difficult pass ,when it was far easier to play it simple. Manager king decided to play a 4 3 3 formation with the attacking players of Kempy, Midge and Roy up front, but this did leave a bit of space in midfield ,which caused us a few problems ,but it was from some excellent play down our right hand side ,with Kevin Anderson involved in a lot of the play, his pass to Roy down the channel leaving Roy with 1 to beat, ,he cut inside his marker and smashed the ball into the back of the net from 10 yds. This was a bit against the way the game was going, but Swavesey were soon back on level terms ,when a great shot from 25 yds flew into the top corner of the net. This seemed to get us going and we started moving the ball quicker , and looked a lot better side. With Midge picking up a couple of goals in the space of 5 mins . We were attacking on all fronts, but this did leave us a it exposed at the back, and swavesey had a few half chances, but our defence held firm. Wazza was on hand to steer one in from a cross just inside the box, a trademark Wazza goal, always arriving at the right time.. 4 .1 half time. 3 changes at half time ,brought on Roy shaw, centre back, stu smith right midfield, and dippy right back. Unknown to manager King we started the 2nd half with 10 men, brought too many off. The ref would let us bring a man back on until the ball went off. This seemed to take ages for the ball to go off, but we were not punished. We picked up a couple of injures ,so had to switch things about , but the half saw us dominate, without having too many chances, Swavesey were getting tired ,and getting a bit sloppy, but they kept plugging away and scrambled another goal midway through the half. 4.2 . The shock of the day came with our 5 goal, dippy now playing anywhere down the right hand side ,actually crossed the ball with his LEFT foot ,totally confusing everyone, but Wazza had made the run into the box anyway, and he met the cross with his head from 10yds and guided it into the far corner of the net. This killed the game off and rounded off a good solid performance . The Man of the Match goes to 2 players today, both getting 6 votes each. Both are a managers dream player, with there work rate ,commitment and enthusiasm . Nigel Parker and Warren Everdell.

Next week see us entertain St ives.
