Vets match 28th September v cambs vets

Today we travelled to histon to take on cambs vets. This has always been a tough game and today was no different. As it is vets football we are all out to enjoy ourselves and as cambs vets had a couple of players drop out this morning I ended up giving him stu smith and roy shaw. (Thank you both for that). We had 2 new signing today paul , who came in at left back, and matt , centre half, both acquitted themselves very well. The pitch was in excellent condition which suited our style , we knocked the ball around with sedge in midfield pulling the strings, he is an excellent player on the ball and a very important player for us, and after 15 mins he finished off a good move with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box. We looked very good going forward, but were abit sluggish at the back and it needed a great save from dave the cat midway through the half to keep us in the lead. Our usual man of the match dippy (his words not mine) had a chance to double our lead when he found himself with space inside the box , but the ball was on his left foot and he never hit it with his left, so he squandered the chance and also lost he chance of winning the man of match award. He did redeem himself abit when a flowing move found him out wide on the right his cross found roy who brilliantly controlled it on his chest and volleyed it in from 12 yds. Great goal. We then lost phil with a slight hamstring injury, his 2nd game which was a shame as he will be a very good player for us.We went in at half time 2 0 up. We started the 2nd half well with sedge, kempy dippy all going very close, but we were made to pay for our missed chances when we were caught on the counter attack and cambs scored. The game was getting stretched now with all players getting tired and roy restored our 2 goal advantage again when another  cross from dippy found him at the back post 8 yds out and he rifled it home. Cambs still kept plugging away and skipper clark nearly conceding a goal when he tried to play his way out of trouble only to end up losing the ball , but luckily the forwad missed the chance. The goal of the game came midway through the half when roy converted a cross with a magnificent overhead kick from 10yds to complete a brilliant ha trick.  Cambs were not done and a long ball from the back caught our defence square and dave the cat hesitated and there forward lobbed the ball over his head into the net. 4.2 with 10 mins to go, produced a few more chances for us but we couldn't convert any. Overall a good proformance and another win. The players man of the match was our hatrick hero Roy Essendoh.
