Vets football

Sunday 21st September v royston  (away) Today we played at royston town, s pitch against a very good royston team. Darren may (DAZZ) Peter lindsey (DIPPY) John Clark  (captain and good tosser) and new signing Martin Westcotte came into the squad today. The pitch was in excellent condition , perfect for playing football.  The game was played at a fast pace and very evenly match, both goalkeepers were in excellent form, there keeper making 3 good saves to deny midge, westy and kempy and also the woodwork came to his rescue a couple of times, but it wasn't all one way traffic as our keeper dave the cat williams made 3 great saves, one being when the player was offside when he received the ball ( blame the linesman for not keeping up with play) and only had the cat to beat from 12 yds but dave pulled off a great save. 0 .0 at half time was fair, I made a couple of changes with dazz and kevin anderson coming on. Dazz was his usual self making 5 or 6 crunching tackles early on winning every one fairly, but with 20 mins left he was forced off with a slight injury.the game was still evenly balanced , but alot more space  now started to appear as players tired on a big pitch. I then lost midfied general wazz with a slight knock, but with sedge and the unpredictable dippy and usually the man of the match(thats what he says) playing well down the right hand side we kept creating chances. Our defence were solid with captain clark in excellent form. With the game looking to be heading for a 0.0 draw , we produced the best move of the game. Dave our keeper gave it to kevin anderson, who passed to sedge in midfield he in turn passed it out to the left wing  to westy, who cut into and hit a brilliant cross field passed to the back post where dippy controlled the ball superbly to knock it inside to midge, who from 10 yds out blasted it goal bound, only for the keeper to get his hands to it and nearly stop it, but was just unable to prevent it going over the line.

This was in the last 4 mins and we managed to hold out for a great win. The players this week have chosen to select the plagyer of the match and this weeks man of the match is dave the cat williams with over 8 votes. The work rate from the whole side was brilliant, lets keep it going.  Next Sunday away to cambs vets
