Vets match 6th oct Sunday v Milton (away)

Today we were away to Milton on a beautiful sunny morning and the big pitch was in excellent condition. It was a shame that milton seemed to have rather alot of young players, most of them looking under 40, but it made for a very good game. We welcome back today for there 1st game this season , barry cavilla (Goalkeeper)  and john mitchley, luckily I have a squad of 25 players, as we were down to the bare bones today. Barry was called upon early to make a smart save down to the right , they looked very lively going forward with our defence mitch, clark, glen and roy being kept busy.we started to come into the game after 15 mins with kempy and sedge going close. 2 very dubious off side decisions midway through the half deprived kempy of great scoring chances. We on the other hand weren't so lucky when after 30mins a ball over the top looked to have the player offside, but no flag and the lad slotted it in. 5mins later 2 players this time appeared to be off, but again the flag stayed down and the player ran on to score. 2 0 half time. We lost sedge our midfield playmaker at half time to a hamstring injury . luckily I had 2 guest players Trevor and robbo (both play for cambs vets) who came on with dave the cat williams, he can play in many positions, but today I had him at centre half, and an excellent 2nd half he had. I thought we might struggle with fitness against the young team, but we actually had the better of the 2nd half with matt, paul and kempy all having great opportunities to score but the keeper pulling off some good saves.we were knocking the ball around now with mitch enjoying  his time down the right hand side his pass to matt started the move for matt to pass it onto kempy on the edge of the box who beat the defender and this time beat the keeper from 8 yds , he punched the air with glee just reward for all his hard work. Our defence was in excellent form restricting there forwards and with barry commanding his box in back 4 ..The game was getting stretched now and a ball over the top by mitch found paul , but his finish was weak and the keeper saved easily, but we weren't going to be denied and again kempy popped up inside the box to score his 2nd to make it 2.2 after 20mins 5mins later chasing a through ball kempy, s hamstring went and he had to leave the field.we had a few tired legs now but continued to dominate without carving out any other chances apart from the 35 yds shot from roy (headbutt) Shaw which sailed over the it ended all square a brilliant result considering the age of the milton side. The players man of the match with over half the votes goes to our goalscorer howard kemp. Cavilla 7, mitch 7, clark 7, shaw 7, glen 7, matt,7 sedge 7, paul 7, king 6, wazz 7, kemp 8, subs William s 7, robbo 7, trevor 7. Next match Buckden away
