Result: Hemingford 3 Godmanchester White 1

Our final match of 2014 was a closely contested match. We started very brightly and had an early goal wrongly ruled out for offside. It was a well worked team goal so was particularly disappointing not to be awarded the goal. We could have been 2-0 up in the first 15 minutes and were starting to wonder if it was not going to be our day. But after 20 minutes we were rewarded for our play with a well taken goal by Bertie Kemp. This however galvanised Godmanchester and we spent the last 10 minutes of the half on the back foot and were relieved to get to half time with still leading. At the start of the second half Godmanchester continued to press and equalised with a good team goal. To the boys credit, they responded with effort and guile. The match was very even and appeared destined to end 1-1 but with just a minute remaining Jordan Ciliberto managed to swivel inside the Godmanchester box and finish with aplomb. Then in added time Tom Best dribbled around a couple of Godmanchester defenders and neatly tucked away in the far corner to add a third goal. Fittingly the boys ended the year on a high, winning 3-1. Man of the match was Harvey Cantrell for an excellent performance in defence, timing interceptions to perfection. The boys also recognised another fine performance from Bertie Kemp who played the majority of the match as left midfield/winger as well as in defence towards the end of the match.
