An enthralling cup match ended with a Hemingford victory. It was only our second home match of the season and ironically both against Somersham. The last match ended in a 1-0 win but this match was totally different. Somersham started the match the strongest and deservedly went ahead with a stunning long range shot from just inside our half. We were struggling to get hold of the ball and changed the formation to pack the midfield. Not long after we got an equaliser through a great through ball by Dan Phillips which Leon Tinker raced on to and finished with aplomb. It was 1-1 at half time with Spencer Cordery outstanding in goal and Bertie Kemp covering and clearing a couple of dangerous Somersham attacks. In the second half we carried on with the formation of packing the midfield with 6 players and started to dominate possession. Leon Tinker picked the ball up from a deflection off a Somersham defender and put us 2-1 ahead with a similar finish to the first goal. Soon afterwards Somersham won a free kick outside our penalty area and equalised with a great strike. This gave the visitors a lift but before the momentum switched in their favour, Leon Tinker picked the ball up just inside the Somersham half, ran with the ball and unleashed a ferocious shot which gave the goalkeeper no chance. A great hat-trick but Leon was not finished. Some pressure in the Somersham penalty area ended with Leon adding his, and our fourth. The team was playing well although it needed an outstanding save from Spencer Cordery to push the ball onto and over the crossbar to keep the score at 4-2. Ciaran Lyne came on as a substitute at half time as a striker and was holding the ball up well and linking play with the midfield. Dan Phillips went on a determined run and deservedly scored with a calm finish to make it 5-2. The match was over as a contest but Somersham are a determined team and scored a third in injury time to complete the scoring 5-3. The whole team, 15 players, played their part in a great team performance, especially in the second half and it was decided to award all 15 players as man of the match. All 15 players deserve a mention; Spencer Cordery, Jake Hooper, Leon Tinker, Logan Wareing, Kai Hickinson, Tom Best, Robert McCrossan, Harvey Cantrell, Bertie Kemp, Jordan Ciliberto, Tom Lynn, Kieran Weston, Dan Phillips, Ethan Pettit, Ciaran Lyne.
